About Us

Long before the first tee shot was ever taken, the land that is now Woodland Golf Club was open pasture. It was owned by the Woodruff family and shaped by the agricultural roots of Champaign County.

In 1971, plans were officially announced to turn this property into a championship golf course. Designed by Columbus-based PGA professional Jack Kidwell, Woodland opened its first nine holes in 1972, with the full 18-hole course completed by 1974. From the beginning, it was built to be a welcoming place for both public and semi-private golfers, with rolling fairways, natural water features, and a relaxed atmosphere that put people first.

For decades, Woodland became a destination for league nights, weekend rounds, family traditions, and lifelong friendships. It grew into a place where golf and community came together naturally.

Then, in 2021, the story came full circle.

The Woodruff family reacquired Woodland Golf Club, returning ownership of the land to the same family whose pasture helped give it life more than 50 years earlier. Today, Woodland blends its history with a renewed focus on the future, staying true to where it started while continuing to invest in what comes next.

Woodland is more than a golf course.
It is a story of land, legacy, and community, one round at a time.
