4-H Round Up

Teams of 4 at $300

Teams of 4 with dinner at The Woodruff Farm $460

Purchase Tickets at 4hroundup.org

In August 2021, we brainstormed on how the community could encourage more young people in Champaign County to become involved with agriculture through 4-H work. Later that year, local farmer, Dan Bline and 4-H Youth Development Educator, Melinda Ryan, from The Ohio State University, Champaign County Extension Office, came together with me to create a new 4-H Club called: New Beginnings. The club was created for youth and their families to participate with 4-H livestock that didn’t have the resources or support to get started. The following year, the club signed up 32 young people with lamb and goat projects. These animals were housed at The Woodruff Farm in Urbana, Ohio, and the young participants worked on their projects throughout the summer of 2022. These girls and boys gathered livestock knowledge, gained confidence, and became a 4-H family with help from our 4-H intern. This year, we have 40 participants signed up for lamb and goat projects.

4-H is more than showing an animal at the fair. Through 4-H, kids learn responsibility, accountability, and build character that helps prepare them for their adult lives. 4-H teaches them how to take care of an animal, how to rely on others, and how to be reliable.

The impact on these young people and their families has been inspiring and we need your help to expand our mission and keep their passion growing. Our goal is to expand the project in 2024 for future 4-Hers interested in taking a beef, swine, or dairy project along with lamb and goats in Champaign County. By increasing our scope, we need your support in extending our reach.

Save the date: September 9,2023! Please join us for our inaugural 4-H Round Up. This special event will feature a golf outing at Woodland Golf Course during the day, and an evening, farm-to-table dinner at The Woodruff Farm. The dinner will include live and silent auctions, entertainment, and more. This will be a night to remember! Below are opportunities for you to become engaged with our mission and help to support our local 4-Hers at the 2024 Champaign County Fair.

Keith's Not One & Done

Keith's Not One & Done

2:00 PM Start

$85 per player

Entry fee includes golf, cart, and post-round meal catered by Woodruff Farms

Email Dillon Calicoat at dillon@golfwoodland.com to reserve your spot.

All proceeds will benefit the Junior Golf Program.

Join us for the 1st annual Keith’s Not One and Done Memorial Golf Outing. There's going to be cold drinks, delicious food, plenty of prizes, and a great group of people to spend the day with. This scramble is in honor of Dillon’s stepfather who passed away in 2019. Keith was the reason Dillon fell in love with the game of golf. All money raised in his name to start a Junior Golf Program here at Woodland.

To explain how the game is played, its right in the name. A normal scramble you make your birdie putt and go to the next hole, but not this game. Dillon, Keith and his brothers would play in scrambles and Keith would always complain that he didn’t get to putt that much, so he came up with the idea that everyone putts. For example if you have a birdie putt and the first person makes it, everyone try and makes it and you have the opportunity to make 4 birdies on one hole.

Roll the Dice

This game will be set up on the par 5 13th. All we need is a 5-dollar bill and the team captain to be the roller of our HUGE FUZZY PIN-UP GOLF DICE. If you roll 1-6 the team gets to go to the ladies' tee box to tee it up. If you roll 7 – 12 the team goes to a 375 yd. marker in the middle of the fairway to tee it up. If you roll doubles, your team gets to tee off 75 yds from the green.

Beat the Pro

Your team will be able to have an opportunity take down Woodland’s Pro (Dillon), in a Closest-to-the-Pin contest. Teams will buy in to participate. If anyone hits a better shot than Dillon, that golfer gets a small prize. BUT, if you do lose then you will be able to use Dillon’s shot as your own.

Honest John

Before the start of the tournament, every player puts a set amount of money into the pot. Before the round begins, each player makes a prediction on what his final score will be. The player who comes the closest to predicting his actual score wins the pot and gets first prize. In a variation of the game, you predict your own score and for one other member of your foursome. You not only have to know your own game, but you also have to know your playing partner's game.
